Synopsis: An aging star takes drastic measures to hold on to her youth and beauty.
The Good: This is a film you absolutely will not forget. It’s the grossest, sexiest, weirdest thing I’ve ever seen, in that order. Every single thing is over the top ,which I’m normally all about but this time…it just makes you incredibly uncomfortable and then shockingly appalled. The director took a lot of chances. Some worked, others really really didn’t. Beautiful photography but highly uneasy angles, Cronenberg level body horror, stark social commentary.
The Bad: It was beyond gratuitous into essentially pornography, which I get…it’s about objectification and going too far and contrasting that with extreme gore but the ending ruined that whole message for me and went completely off the rails, making the whole thing upsetting in retrospect.
Best Line: “You haven’t changed a bit! You’re still the most beautiful girl in the whole wide world!”
Fun Fact: Ray Liotta was cast in the film in February 2022, but he died in May that year before he could film his scenes. Dennis Quaid replaced him, but Liotta is still mentioned in the director’s “Thank You Notes” during the credits.
