Obvious Child: (2014)

7/5/2024

Synopsis: A comedian must come to terms with life after getting pregnant during a one-night-stand

The Good: I think this is an important film but more than that it’s funny. It’s cute and honest and raw in the best ways. It is a departure from the typical rom-com with a fresh perspective. Jenny Slate was awesome and David Cross was gross.

The Bad: It moves slow, like all A24 films. There is a fair deal of awkwardness, a lot of situational humor and crude but often funny jokes.

Best Line: You’re dizzy because you played Russian roulette with your vagina.’

Fun Fact: Robespierre hoped to remove the stigma surrounding abortion and to correct what she perceived as a misrepresentation of unplanned pregnancy in earlier films.
