Movie 43: (2013)

10/16/2024

Synopsis: A series of short films all centered around a central idea.

The Good: Each little film was a lot of fun. I liked most of the short films, even if the frame story was kind of schlocky. Hugh Jackman’s balls on the chin scene was the best thing of the year. There were so many good moments, you wouldn’t normally see with this level of star.

The Bad: The main story is ridiculous and kind of harms the overall film. It takes a lot away from the stories being told.

Best Line: “How’s your acid reflux?”
“How’s your HPV?”
“It’s your HPV Veronica, I’m just carrying it.”

Fun Fact: The movie was filmed over a span of four years. Production took so long because filming had to be done around the actors’ busy schedules. The segment with Kate Winslet and Hugh Jackman was the first to be filmed, and producer Charles B. Wessler used it to secure the financing for the rest of the movie. He called in a lot of favors to get as many high-profile actors as possible for the other short films, most of them willing to work for a few days on something unconventional. However, almost none of the actors knew completely what the other segments were about, or how the full movie would be. When it came out, none of the major actors wanted to promote it.

Verdict:
