Synopsis: A former minor-league basketball coach is ordered by the court to manage a team of players with intellectual disabilities. He soon realizes that despite his doubts, together, this team can go further than they ever imagined.
The Good: Heartfelt film. It’s fun. Worth watching. Harrelson’s performance at the end was quite a surprise. I would love to see more flicks like this that bring in name talent for something other than the same old rehashed horseshit. That being said…
The Bad: There was a lot of rehashed horseshit. The storyline is the most predictable thing I’ve seen in a long long time. The actors save it, they’re legitimate and inspiring but man, phone it in much on the script, people?
Best Line: “Good guys don’t leave.”
Fun Fact: Before this, John Larroquette did this basic story in his NBC movie One Special Victory (1991), where his insensitive character was sentenced by a judge to coach a basketball team of disabled people, and is then transformed during the process; and that film was inspired by the true story in the 1990 book “”B-Ball: The Team That Never Lost a Game”” by Ron Jones (who was that real-life coach, in San Francisco).
