Synopsis: In a dystopian society, high school students are forced to fight each other to the death.
The Good: This is a brutal film but it belongs in the most influential list. Enough so that it is clearly the inspiration for Hunger Games regardless of what anyone claims. It’s difficult to watch dubbed because you lose the acting performances but it’s worth seeing what they claimed American audiences would never be ready for.
The Bad: It has a strong low budget feel throughout and again, without being in the original language a lot is lost. If you speak Japanese, absolutely watch it that way.
Best Line: Run.
Fun Fact: Many members of the Japanese Parliament tried to get the novel banned, but to no avail. When the film was released, they attempted to ban it also. Both efforts resulted in the novel and film becoming even more successful as people bought the book and went to the movie to see what the fuss was all about. – IMDb
