Synopsis: A human-like machine goes on a rampage through Russia to rescue his kidnapped wife.
The Good: This is the spiritual predecessor to what I’m trying to do with VR. It’s existence is VERY encouraging. It’s exactly what it says it is. Hardcore. Intense action from front to back, a non stop barrage of sensory information. It still manages to handle having some kind of story fairly decently.
The Bad: It’s basically Call of Duty: The Movie. It’s very easy to get disoriented in this first-person environment. The action is so relentless that it is a bit mind numbing overall.
Best Line: “You’re half machine, half pussy.”
Fun Fact: Henry was played by ten different stuntmen and cameramen including director Ilya Naishuller. He was originally played by Russian stuntman/camera operator Sergey Valyaev but the camera rig used in production eventually caused him severe neck pain and the role was given to Andrei Dementiev–who also suffered neck pain as well in addition to losing a tooth after being struck by a stuntman. In the scenes where Danila Kozlovskiy and Sharlto Copley talked directly to Henry, Valyaev and Dementiev wore shades to prevent the actors or actresses from looking at them instead of the camera.
