Stripes: (1981)

Synopsis: An immature taxi driver who, after losing his job and his girlfriend, decides to enlist in the United States Army with his friend.

The Good: It’s funny, right? This is peak Bill Murray in the wild days of the 80s where just about anything went…except for homosexuals. It’s ridiculous, it’s cute, it’s full of slapstick comedy and nude mud wrestling. It is what it is.

The Bad: One of thousands of movies they completely ignore any sense of realistic set up. Blatant disregard for military structure, international law, basic physics….little stuff.

Best Line: Now, are either of you homosexuals?’
‘You mean, like, flaming, or…’
‘Well, it’s a standard question we have to ask.’
‘No, we’re not homosexual, but we are *willing to learn*.’
‘Yeah, would they send us someplace special?’
I guess that’s “no” on both. Now if you could just give Uncle Sam your autograph…’

Fun Fact: Every scene had some element of improvisation due in large part to Murray and Ramis. Much of the mud wrestling scene was made up on the spot by Reitman. Candy felt uncomfortable during filming, but Reitman talked him through it.
