Synopsis: Dracula, who operates a high-end resort away from the human world, goes into overprotective mode when a boy discovers the resort and falls for the count’s teenaged daughter.
The Good: This is actually one of my favorite animated films. It’s just the right amount of atmosphere, goofiness, humor and drama. The characters are fun and the actors are all excellent choices in their roles. Selena Gomez does an incredible job with Mavis who is somehow cute, innocent, dark and fun at the same time.
The Bad: The story can flag every now and then. Not a lot but enough to notice if it’s you’re second or third watch that there’s just some punch missing here and there.
Best Line: I do NOT say ‘bleh bleh bleh’, ok?!’
Fun Fact: Near the beginning of the movie, when the hotel guests are first seen arriving, Dracula (Adam Sandler) mentions that the hotel has been in operation since 1898. It is also shown that Mavis’ mother was killed by a mob in approximately 1895 (based on a family portrait showing Mavis at around one-year-old with both of her parents). Bram Stoker’s Dracula was written in 1896 and released in 1897. So this movie actually uses a chronological order following the original Dracula story, as if it were a telling of the original Stoker novel.
